Patches, Good job with the Google Search new resume. It has a wide selection of choices. I would have liked to see you listed on a little more than just social networking. Surely there is some national real estate organization that could be honoring your for your contributions to the field ;) Great job, keep it up.
ReplyDeleteI liked how you took a different angle on your resume. The google style resume is very creative. But like Swampy suggested; it needs to be more organized. Try putting the images as the first url on the layout and make your descriptions/meta tags clear and consise.

ReplyDeleteYour traditional resume is a starter resume. You don’t have a lot of experience yet, but you have plenty to offer. You’ve done well in school, have a great athletic career, and work hard.
A resume is a keyword document. I look at it with a glance. Yours doesn’t say all that it could. For example, you list the Big East All-Academic Team and don’t even mention the important word soccer. I would put your soccer career right underneath your two degrees and pull the benefits of what has to be an important part of your life through the whole document. You achieved all your academics while playing.
I wouldn’t call your work experience “Related” because these are starter jobs. They are not public relations or interactive media positions. I would be careful with terms like Career Development Specialist or Placement Engineer too. If you were a mover at a moving company, then say that. Don’t try and make it more than it is. You are starting your career. Human resources departments will respect your work ethic. That’s all that’s necessary.
Make the document more unified. Stress the relationship between your degrees and use keywords that stress your career goals. Then pull soccer through all of that too.
I also worked with employers to help them find the right person that could help fill a position that they were looking to fill.
Fill a position that they were looking to fill? Improve the writing under your experiences. I would cut these paragraphs down to the essence. Again, these are starter jobs. Then give a few sentences to soccer and school.
Your “new resume” is standard Patches. You have the typical Facebook, Twitter, blog trifecta, but that’s where we begin in class. You can differentiate yourself with the apps and social media you utilize.
I like how you distinguish yourself with the morals idea. That’s what this assignment is about. In the same way I’m looking for keywords in your resume, I want to see the words that define your voice here. You write very well on real estate, but what distinguishes you from all the other experts on housing online?
These meta descriptions/search results are a chance for you to use words and short phrases to not just define Patch Adams, but associate your voice with ideas and theses.
“How to Flip a Home” is one possibility. The more you write, the more you will have other ideas.
